My God feat. Alyssa McMayhem

from La Artista Conquistadora! by Denise Clarke

about

This song is about God, the metaphor. I wrote it while thinking about Rosslyn's father leaving. I thought about how your greatest love is your greatest loss, and compared my first husband to a God, and how a God is so very ghostly... you know he exists, but he simply is not there to ease your pain. This song is hard to explain. I am not a religious person, but the emotions I was feeling, I felt could be universally communicated by using universal vocabulary, and the word God was selected to communicate with everyone how I felt.

lyrics

My God,
What have you done?
Where did you run?
I'm so alone.
My God,
Am I in hell?
Surrounded by angels,
Or is this a well?
My God,
What have we done?
You are the sun,
But I am a lighter.
So please,
Just put me out,
I'm tired of shouting!
But I am a fighter!
I know,
I'm richer than poor,
But I can't sleep without any force.
I'm sound,
And safely I'm sure,
But still nevermore I need you to adore me.
I have fallen down the deepest realm of all my sins are part of living isn't half as what it used to be another chance would be too much to ask for what I have is worth the pain to gain a second glass in frame to see the better parts of everything.
My God,
What have you done?
You are the sun,
I am the one.
My God,
What have we done?
You are the sun,
I am the gun.
